THE STONE AGE – EARLY MAN

· Earliest phase of human history is known as the stone age because THE EARLIEST MAN USED ONLY tools made of stone thus

· The evolution of the earth’s crust shows four stages the four stage is called quaternary

· Which has parts Pleistocene and Holocene

· Man was first appeared in Africa

· We find human presence in India about 250000 BC

· There are three parts of stone age

PALEOLITHIC AGE

· Paleolithic man in India is also called the quartzite man as it mostly used quartzite tools

· Paleolithic culture of India developed in the Pleistocene time of ice age

· In India , the 1st human occupation is not earlier then the middle Pleistocene

· Paleolithic tools of 100000 BC have been found in Kurnool district

· The other Paleolithic sites are found in soan valley belan valley These are in Pakistan

· The most important site where cave and rocks shelter used by Paleolithic man are found binmbetka near Bhopal

· The Paleolithic tools of stone age are hand axe, cleavers, choppers, scrapers,

· They lived on hunting and food gathering.

· He had no knowledge of cultivation. However he knew the use of fire

MESOLITHIC AGE

· IN 9000 BC intermediate stage in the stone age culture, Mesolithic age began

· Mesolithic man lived on hunting, fish & food gathering and at later stages also domesticated animals

· Characteristics tools of Mesolithic age are microliths

· Adamgarh in M.P and bagor in the Rajasthan – earliest evidence of domestication of animal

· Bhimbetka is fine example of pre historic art. Rock painting existing from Paleolithic Mesolithic period
